TEETH CLEANING
As you can imagine, visits to the dentist are quite different for us than our canine and feline family members. Not only have we been taking care of our teeth on a daily basis for years, but also most of us have the ability to sit still and keep our mouths open for periods of time without sedation. Veterinary dental procedures require general anethesia.
Once your pet is under anesthesia, we begin the dentistry by removing the tartar from the teeth with an ultrasonic scaler. If there are signs that any of your pet's teeth are unhealthy or unstable, extractions are performed at that time. The final step to the procedure is to polish the teeth and apply a fluoride-based foam to strengthen the enamel of teeth.
Before dental procedures are scheduled and performed, a physical exam and consultation with the veterinarian are required.
